The Curriculum at Round Hill Nursery School offers our children experiences which encourage growth in social, physical, cognitive and creative areas. Activities which focus on gross and fine motor skills, language development, pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-math skills, the creative arts and social and emotional growth are the emphasis of our program.
Our curriculum utilizes a hands-on approach to learning through risk taking and investigating in a safe and supportive environment. Individual differences, readiness levels and learning styles among our students are recognized and appreciated by our experienced faculty.
We enrich our program with field trips to Greenwich Audubon for Wildlife in Winter, SUNY Purchase for an introduction to the excitement of live theater, The Fairchild Gardens for an autumn scavenger hunt and to the Bruce Museum and Stamford Nature Center. We also provide on-site enrichment with visits from Dinosaurs Rock, Oceans Rock, The Bartlett Arboretum, and Animal Embassy.
Of utmost importance, however is the understanding that children learn best through play. At Round Hill Nursery School, we make sure to provide ample play time for our young students.

First Step

The First Step Program runs Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a student to teacher ratio of 4:1. Each child is encouraged to explore the environment at his or her own pace. The emphasis is on social, emotional and language development as children begin to develop a sense of their place in the world around them. Within the structure of safe, consistent routine there is room for individual growth and experimentation. Activities include free play, puzzles, manipulatives, arts and crafts, music, gym, fine and gross motor activities, and outdoor play. To be eligible for admission to the First Step program, a child must celebrate his or her second birthday prior to December 31. Children do not need to be toilet trained for this program.

The Upper School program at RHNS is a Monday through Friday program with a maximum ratio of 8:1. The hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., with four optional extended days until 1:45 p.m. To be eligible for admission to the Upper School, a child must celebrate his or her birthday by December 31st (for our pre-K program). The goals of our program are to provide an environment in which children will experiment, explore and discover. We work closely with our families to provide continuity between home and school, and ongoing communication is given at Round Hill Nursery School. Children are provided the opportunity to develop positive relationships with peers and teachers, and to develop respect and appreciation for differences among their classmates.

First Step Teachers

Three Year Old Teachers

Four Year Old Teachers

The children come together I small groups as they paint a mural, work with clay, and/or participate in an activity (art, cooking, science and/or nature, etc.,) which reinforces a unit of study.

A “special” subject: Four days per week our children receive instruction in art, music and physical education. In the music program, the children come to appreciate different styles of music while becoming comfortable performing before an audience. In the art program, our young students have an opportunity to work with different materials as they draw, mold, paint and sculpt. The gym program provides not only general exercise but an introduction to sports such as soccer, floor hockey and t-ball.
